Terry Fox Walk
Dear Families,
Charlton Public School is pleased to be hosting the annual Terry
Fox Walk. All monies raised through our event will be forwarded
to The Terry Fox Foundation to benefit cancer
research.
We are
very proud to be associated with The Terry Fox Foundation and
believe that our involvement will launch a successful, positive, and meaningful
school year. Our walk will take place on Friday, October
1st, 2021 at 1:30pm. All students will take part
in this event for such a worthy cause. Terry Fox ran his Marathon
of Hope and is a strong example of determination and
perseverance.
Please
use the link below to make a donation. It will take you to our
school’s fundraising page at terryfox.org. If you make a donation over twenty
dollars, The Terry Fox Foundation will issue a tax
receipt online which is eco-friendly and efficient.

Trustee Message
Message From Our Trustee, September 2021
We have many reasons to feel
optimistic as we begin the 2021-22 school year. Schools are reopening to
in-person learning, vaccination rates continue to increase, and our students
can start to resume some of their favourite school activities.
As we return to school, our reopening plan continues
to prioritize the health and safety of students, families and staff members. We
are working with public health to ensure we are taking all appropriate
measures. For more information on the plan, including health and safety
measures, please visit www.yrdsb.ca/school-reopening. You can
also find additional information from York Region Public Health at www.york.ca/safeatschool.
The pandemic and last year’s school
closures affected students and families in many different ways. This has been a
challenging time. Our caring, skilled and dedicated staff members are prepared
to prioritize the mental health and well-being of students as they transition
back to school, as well as supporting their academic learning and growth. If
you are worried about your child, please speak to your child’s teacher or
principal. You may also find some of the learning and well-being resources on our
website helpful.
Whether your child will be
attending school in person or online, we know how important it is that they
feel safe, respected and valued. We want every student to feel supported, to
take pride in their identities and to know that they matter. Any form of hate
or discrimination in our schools is not acceptable. This school year, we will
continue to implement the Dismantling
Anti-Black Racism Strategy launched in March to address anti-Black racism
in schools. We also remain committed as a school board to honouring the Truth and
Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action. As your trustee, it is
imperative that we create learning environments that enable all of our students
to feel valued and to be successful, and I welcome the insights that were
shared at the National Summit on Antisemitism and National Summit on
Islamophobia.
It is my role to advocate for quality
public education in York Region, and to ensure that our students remain at the
centre of all of our decision making. The Board of Trustees makes policy and budget decisions,
and communicates with the public, among other responsibilities. We are
also responsible for setting direction for the school board, through our Multi-Year
Strategic Plan. This plan sets out four priorities: Foster Well-Being and Mental
Health, Build Collaborative Relationships, Champion Equity and Inclusivity, and
Empower Ethical Leadership.
The relationship that we have with
families is so important, and I will continue to keep you informed of our work
and priorities. You can also find the message from the Chair of
the Board on the Board’s website. You are welcome to contact
me if you have any questions or concerns.
There are also many other ways you
can stay connected with what’s happening in the school board. Visit our newsroom. Listen to our podcast. Follow us on Twitter @YRDSB and on Instagram @yrdsb.schools. Watch the latest videos, including news, features and
profiles about our schools, students and staff members on our YouTube channel
YRDSBMedia.
As we begin another school year, I
am so pleased to welcome all of our new and returning families. I hope you have
a great start to the school year and wish you a happy, healthy and successful
year ahead.

Kiss and Ride Drop Off and Pick Up
Kiss and Ride Drop Off and Pick Up
In an effort to keep students safe and keep school traffic
flowing, we are sending out an update to inform our parents and guardians about
our Kiss and Ride drop off and pick up procedures.
The Bus Loop is off limits to parents and guardians
that drive their children to school each day between 8 am to 8:35 am. Pylons will be placed at the entrance and exit of the bus loop to prevent access. This is important as buses
have priority in our driveway loop. They have many runs scheduled after Charlton
P.S. drop off and hence must stay on time and enter and exit as per their
schedule. At times, buses are late arriving for a variety of reasons and the
bus loop must remain clear of vehicles until well after 8:35 am.
The Kiss and Ride area is accessed by entering the
parking lot entrance (as indicated on the map). Please pull as close to the
curbing as possible, have your child (ren) get out and walk along the sidewalk
to the school yard. Please depart
promptly by looping through the
parking lot so that other vehicles are able to use this space too.
Parents are able to also use Joseph Aaron Blvd. and park along the curb or the
school lot if they wish to escort their children onto school property. Please avoid parking in the Kiss
and Ride lane if you wish to walk your children onto school property. This is a
drop off only.
Parents and guardians are welcome to use our parking lot to park their vehicles if they
prefer to walk their child (ren) on the yard. This will help out traffic
congestion and keep it moving in the Kiss and Ride lane. Most importantly, this
will keep our students and your children safe!
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!
Sincerely,
Mr. Brown

Welcome Back to a New School Year & Important Information
Welcome back to everyone at CPS! We would like to extend a warm welcome to all our returning and new staff that have joined us this year. Our team has worked diligently to prepare for students to return to school and have participated in required professional learning and training to start the year off safe. Once again, we begin another school year that is impacted by COVID-19 and the limitations that go along with mandated processes by York Public Health. Please also recognize that some students are still learning in remote learning environments and our teachers are still developing their understanding of what a hybrid model looks, feels and sounds like. Please welcome our staff when you meet them with your child(ren) when dropping off and picking them up on our yard. Please remember to social distance and when you are not able to maintain a 2 metre distance from others, wear a mask.
We welcome our staff for 2021-2022 -
Some helpful tips for the school year:
Screening Process
- New Requirements for all students:
Families are
reminded that on a daily basis they are to ensure that they complete their
daily screening for each of their children using the online school and
childcare screening tool: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/
. Students who are unwell or present with any one of the symptoms on the
screening tool are not to attend school and are required to obtain a negative
COVID test and/or receive guidance from their family physician prior to
returning to school.
Upon completion of
the self-assessment, Parents/Guardians are required to complete the response to
the question, “Have you completed the self-screening tool?” in the confirmation
form https://covidscreening.yrdsb.ca/
using their child's GAPPS account login information for each child.
**Please be aware that if you and your children have travelled internationally and arrived home within the past 14 days, your unvaccinated children are required to remain home from school according to York Region Public Health. Please review the screening tool above for clarification.
